  2. Identify Your Values: Choose 3-5 core values that will guide and direct your financial choices and actions.

  3. Set Clear Goals: Identify five goals for the next year. These should align with your values and guide your budgeting decisions.

  4. Align Your Budget with Your Priorities: Consider your top priority goals and values when creating your budget. For instance, if fun is a value, allocate extra funds to your travel budget and reduce spending on less important areas.

  5. Find Alternatives to Spending: When the urge to spend creeps in, engage in an alternative activity that enhances the release of good-feeling chemicals. Spend time in nature, move your body, or organize a closet or drawer.

  6. Mind Your Language: Change your mindset by being mindful of your words. Instead of saying, "I can't afford it," try, "I choose not to spend right now."
